Sharing here some parallels between Joseph, the Son of Israel and our Lord Jesus Christ, The Son of God. 


1.  Beloved Son
Joseph was the beloved son of his father Jacob (Genesis 37:3)

Jesus is the beloved Son of our Heavenly Father (Matthew 3:17)


2. Sent by the Father
Joseph was sent by his father to check on his brothers (Genesis 37:13–14)

Jesus was sent by the Father into the world (John 3:17)


3.  Rejected by His Own
Joseph’s brothers hated and rejected him (Genesis 37:4, 28)

Jesus was rejected by His own people (John 1:11)


4. Conspired Against
Joseph’s brothers plotted to kill him (Genesis 37:18)

Religious leaders plotted to kill Jesus (Matthew 26:4)


5. Stripped of His Garment
Joseph’s coat was stripped off (Genesis 37:23)

Jesus was stripped of His garments (Matthew 27:28)


6. The Pit and the Grave
Joseph was thrown into a pit by his brothers (Genesis 37:24)

Jesus was crucified and laid in the grave (Matthew 27:59–60)


7. Sold for Silver
Joseph sold for 20 pieces of silver (Genesis 37:28)

Jesus betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (Matthew 26:15)


8. Counted Among Criminals
Joseph imprisoned with offenders (Genesis 40:3)

Jesus crucified between two criminals (Luke 23:32–33)


9. One Saved, One Lost
Cupbearer restored, baker judged (Genesis 40)

One thief saved, one rejected (Luke 23:39–43)


10. Exalted After Suffering
Joseph exalted to ruler after suffering (Genesis 41:41)

Jesus exalted after resurrection (Philemon 2:8–9)


11. Given a Name Above Others
Joseph receives authority and a new name (Genessis 41:42–45)

Jesus receives the Name above every name (Philippians 2:9)


12. Savior of the World
Joseph saves nations from famine (Genesis 41:57)

Jesus saves the world from sin (John 4:42)


13. Gentile Bride
Joseph takes a Gentile bride (Genesis 41:45)

Christ takes a bride from the nations (Ephesians 5:25–27)


14. Revealed in the Second Encounter
Joseph reveals himself later to his brothers (Genesis 45)

Christ will be revealed to Israel in the future (Romans 11:26)


15. Forgiveness Instead of Vengeance.
Joseph forgives those who betrayed him (Genesis 50:20)

Jesus forgives His enemies (Luke 23:34)


We have seen how Joseph stands as a shadow of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Truth.
